     Joseph Bach is a partner in the Intellectual Property practice group of Nixon Peabldy, LLC. He advises his clients on all aspects of intellectual property law, including patent prosecution and litigation. Mr. Bach effectively assists clients in managing and protecting their intellectual property portfolios through the use of methodologies and protocols designed to align the IP strategy to the business goals and business model.
     Mr. Bach has extensive experience in litigating intellectual property cases before a wide variety of tribunals, including state and federal courts and the International Trade Commission.
With a truly global practice, Mr. Bach has advised technology companies all over the world, with a deep background in Silicon Valley, California, and Israeli companies and operations. He is also has significant experience with and is regularly invited to lecture on IP issues specific to China.

     Formerly the senior director of intellectual property with Applied Materials, the world’s largest supplier of equipment to the global semiconductor industry, Mr. Bach was responsible for all aspects of Applied Materials’ intellectual property internationally, including managing and implementing intellectual property strategies, supervising patent prosecution work, evaluating intellectual property of acquisition targets, negotiating various intellectual property agreements, performing product clearances, and defending patent oppositions.

     He has served as a guest lecturer at the California Institute of Technology, teaching a course in semiconductor fabrication technology. In both 2002 and 2003, Mr. Bach received a Certificate of Appreciation from the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office for “contributions resulting in the advancement of Patent Examiner knowledge,” being a USPTO invited lecturer on semiconductor and nano-fabrication technology.
